John,
I'll admit that I've been floundering lately. I have several drafts written, but didn't know where to go next to achieve my goals. Self-publishing is an option, but, like most writers, I'm not great at self-editing. I wanted to give myself the safety net of that "approval" from someone in the business. Read my next blog to see what finally helped me break through the cycle of always writing, but never submitting!

Janet, you have simplified it so well. Being a writer really is all about getting the words down on paper - just doing it! And you're doing it so well, too! Congratulations on the publication of your story in the devotional. How great!

Great advice. I took your advice, and have my 10 ideas sitting before me. This actually worked well for me because I had all these story ideas floating around in the ether, but hadn't had time to even start their development yet. But your prompt pushed me to begin, so thanks! The only bad thing is, now I've got 10 stories to write! :)

My son, too, started his life in the neonatal intensive care unit having come sooner than expected. I never dreamed our family would be a military family with 3 marines - 2 nephews and that same 4 lb 4 oz boy, now a few days away from being promoted to Corporal somewhere in Iraq. Blessings to you my special friend - bravery and courage to match theirs - is what I aspire as well! God bless.

Great comment about the volumes of writing but scarce publishing action! The time dedicated to a blog post is minimal compared to writing an article or manuscript . . . but the return is weaker. I appreciate the encouragement to get busy!

Hope you are back in the swing of things after your vacation. :)

As a proud Marine Corps wife, whose husband is currently deployed for the fourth time in Iraq, I understand your trepedation. I often wonder if my children will want to serve, and how I would react. I have to tell you, there is nothing more satisfying...other than our relationship with Christ... than serving and protecting the country that God has blessed us to live in. The best thing to do is, give it all to God who has promised to work all things out for good... support whatever decision your son makes... and know that there are plenty of us moms, wives, children out here that will come along side and support you.

I just wanted to take a moment and say thank you. I have been in a similar position for quite some time, writing has always been a passion of mine. I have done a great deal of research and now I am standing on the cusp of that monumental step that you have taken. I have read quite a few articles on this site and they have been a valuable resource to me. Thank you once again and good luck with your current projects.
